Severance Hospital

Severance Hospital was founded in 1885 as the first Western-style hospital in Korea, known as Gwanghyewon (Jejungwon), by Dr. H.N. Allen. Since its establishment, Severance Hospital has been a leading hospital in the Korean medical field, dedicating itself to improving public health. Severance Hospital is the first domestic hospital to pursue the specialization of medical treatment through the improvement of medical quality, operating specialized centers such as rehabilitation hospitals, cardiovascular hospitals, ophthalmology hospitals, pediatric hospitals, emergency treatment centers, international treatment centers, and cancer clinics. Additionally, Severance Hospital has been striving for the improvement of medical services through the declaration of patient rights (1993) and accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI).
